Sharv Ramachandran’s new South Indian restaurant, Davie Dosa Company, is bringing bold, new flavours to the West End – and we’re eating it all up.

First and foremost, what is a Dosa?

Dosa is a crepe or pancake version made in small, round grill stoves in South Indian homes. It is made out of rice and is a good source of protein and contains no added sugar or saturated fats. Due to the batter fermentation process, dosas are high in Vitamin B and Vitamin C. Dosa is most commonly eaten as a breakfast with sambhar (veg and lentil dip), coconut, and tomato chutneys. Over time, it has become a meal that can be eaten any time of the day.  Restaurants and culinary experts are starting to use their creativity by making different shapes of Dosas, and also adding different types of meat or veg combinations.

How many varieties of Dosas do you offer?

We created our menu very carefully for our West End neighbours. We serve original version of Dosas that are 100% gluten and nut-free. We also offer lots of options for vegans and vegetarians!

In total, we have 26 different types of Dosas on our menu, which our guests can also customize according to their taste.

In addition to your Dosas, what are some other unique items on your menu?

In Starters: Soup – Veggie Lentil Soup, Rasam (tamarind, tomato, peppercorn broth) Delicious served cold and the perfect chilly day eat.

Rice and Lentil steamed Cake

Medhu Vada – aka savoury lentil donuts

Dal Vada – Lentil Patties

What do you hope Davie Dosa will bring to the West End?

We are bringing something very unique that is exclusive to the West End! We are very proud to introduce Dosas to Davie Village and to the rest of this vibrant neighbourhood.

What do you enjoy the most about working in the West End?

Simply put, we love the West End. It has been only 2 weeks since we did our soft opening, with very little advertising. Several of our guests been here more than 6 times, and the majority of our guests have been here more than 3 times. Whenever they come, they bring their new friends or families. It shows that West Enders are not afraid to try something new, and are very open to new concepts and ideas. We are overwhelmed by the loyalty of our repeat customers and their genuine appreciation. Everyone is very supportive in the West End and emotionally attached to their favourite spots. We are excited to grow with this friendly community!
